The Emax BL2215/25 is a 2.2 ounce, 400 class, 950KV, 180 watt outrunner brushless motor. It's a good choice for sport planes weighing 12 to 35 ounces, and 3D models weighing 10 to 22 ounces.
The APC 9x4.7SF is a good all around prop for this motor, and we suggest that you give it a try for both sport and 3D flying. If you're after minimum speed and maximum thrust for slow flying models like the GWS Slow Stick, the APC 9x3.8SF is a good prop to use. The APC 8x6SF is a good prop choice for higher speeds. The BL2215/25 comes with a Prop Saver which includes 2 o-rings. We recommend using both o-rings to secure props.
We suggest using a 3 cell Lipo battery that is rated for about a 25 amp continuous discharge (or more), such as an 11.1v 860 30C to 11.1v 2200 35C.
We recommend using a 20A to 40A Electronic Speed Control (ESC) with this motor.
The BL2215/25 comes with 3.5mm male connectors installed, and female connectors are included for your ESC.
MOUNTING OPTIONS: The BL2215/25 can be mounted in front of a firewall using the included X mount. A Prop Saver is included for mounting a prop. If you need a similar size motor that mounts behind a firewall, please consider the Emax GT 2215/12.
The GWS Plastic Outrunner Mount can be purchased to mount the BL2215/25 on a 10mm stick.
Propeller data for the BL2215/25 using a 3-cell Lipo battery: It's a good idea to balance all propellers with a Propeller Balancer before using them on this motor. Rotating propellers are dangerous. Please stay clear of prop and wear eye protection.
APC 9 x 3.8SF: 31 oz thrust at 13 amps
APC 9 x 4.7SF: 31 oz thrust at 14 amps
GWS 9050: 29 oz thrust at 13 amps
APC 9 x 6E: 30 oz thrust at 16 amps
APC 8 x 3.8SF: 24 oz thrust at 11 amps
APC 8 x 4E: 20 oz thrust at 10 amps
APC 8 x 6E: 20 oz thrust at 14 amps
APC 8 x 6SF: 24 oz thrust at 16 amps
Please be aware that the battery used can make a tremendous amount of difference in the performance of brushless motors. The above data was obtained using batteries in good condition that were fully charged. Thrust and amp draw may be less with the use of batteries rated at lower amp output, and slightly more using batteries rated for higher amp output. Other factors, such as ESC timing and variations in actual motor KV can affect the performance of brushless motors as well. We recommend the use of a Watt Meter to test the current draw of your particular power system, especially if you plan to use a prop that pushes the motor near it's maximum amp rating.
