The Emax GT4020 700kv is a 9.8 ounce, 700KV, 1200 watt outrunner brushless motor that is roughly equivalent to .46 to .55 2 stroke nitro engines. It's a good choice for sport and scale airplanes weighing 4 to 8 pounds, or 3D planes up to 5 pounds.
The following set up is a good choice for many 40 to 50 class sport planes when using a 4 cell Lipo battery: Emax GT4020 700kv 60A to 100A OPTO ESC 3A or 5A UBEC or a receiver battery APC 13x6.5 prop EZ Flite 14.8v 4200 35C Lipo battery This power set up provides about 6 pounds of thrust with a fresh battery. You may also use an APC 14x7 prop, and you'll have about 7 lbs of thrust.
The following set up is a good choice for many 40 to 50 class sport planes when using a 6 cell Lipo battery: Emax GT4020 700kv 60A to 100A OPTO ESC 3A or 5A UBEC or a receiver battery APC 11x5.5E prop EZ Flite 22.2v 4200 35C Lipo Battery
This power set up provides about 7 pounds of thrust with a fresh battery. For high speed, you can use an APC 11x7E prop. For scale looks, the Master Airscrew 11x7x3 3-blade prop is a good choice.
The GT4020 700kv does not have connectors installed, but many of our speed controls include connectors for a motor. We recommend using a 60A to 100A Electronic Speed Control (ESC) with this motor
MOUNTING OPTIONS: The GT4020 700kv can be mounted in front of a firewall using the included X mount and rotor end prop adapter. It can also be mounted behind a firewall, and an 8mm Prop Adapter can be purchased to mount a prop on the motor shaft.
Propeller data for the GT4020 700kv using a 6-cell Lipo battery: It's a good idea to balance all propellers with a Propeller Balancer before using them on this motor. Rotating propellers are dangerous. Please stay clear of prop and wear eye protection.
APC 11 x 5.5E: 113 oz thrust at 47 amps (1100 watts)
APC 11 x 7E: 112 oz thrust at 54 amps (1240 watts)
Master Airscrew 11 x 7 x 3: 132 oz thrust at 52 amps (1200 watts)
APC 10 x 5E: 96 oz thrust at 32 amps (760 watts)
APC 10 x 7E: 96 oz thrust at 42 amps (980 watts)
Master Airscrew 10 x 7 x 3: 104 oz thrust at 45 amps (1050 watts)
Propeller data for the GT4020 700kv using a 5-cell Lipo battery:
APC 13 x 6.5E: 125 oz thrust at 60 amps (1090 watts). Avoid constant wide open throttle.
APC 12 x 6E: 110 oz thrust at 45 amps (850 watts)
APC 12 x 8E: 101 oz thrust at 52 amps (970 watts)
APC 11 x 7E: 88 oz thrust at 41 amps (790 watts)
Propeller data for the GT4020 700kv using a 4-cell Lipo battery:
APC 15 x 8E: 133 oz thrust at 55 amps (830 watts)
APC 14 x 7E: 114 oz thrust at 50 amps (770 watts)
APC 14 x 8.5E: 106 oz thrust at 52 amps (790 watts)
APC 13 x 6.5E: 101 oz thrust at 43 amps (680 watts)
Master Airscrew 13 x 8 x 3: 102 oz thrust at 48 amps (800 watts)
APC 12 x 6E: 82 oz thrust at 32 amps (500 watts)
Please be aware that the battery used can make a tremendous amount of difference in the performance of brushless motors. The above data was obtained using batteries in good condition that were fully charged. Thrust and amp draw may be less with the use of batteries rated at lower amp output, and slightly more using batteries rated for higher amp output. Other factors, such as ESC timing and variations in actual motor KV can affect the performance of brushless motors as well. We recommend the use of a Watt Meter to test the current draw of your particular power system, especially if you plan to use a prop that pushes the motor near it's maximum amp rating.
